It all started in my final year of engineering September, 2003. Gaming has always been my passion and interest. In my final year, I always dream about games, talk about games and google a lot about games. By then, one fine day, my cousin (Ashwanth) called me up and said "Dude!! I gonna hit the game store to get Play Station 2. You wanna join". I was totally excited. Wow!!!! Play Station 2 the ultimate console by then. We hurried up and got the PS2. The PS2 console was totally sexy. We started racing against time in NFS for a while and then comes evergreen Prince of Persia. No words to describe the fun we had. We, my twin bro (Diwakar) and myself, used hit to my cousin's place most of the weekends to play Play Station 2. One weekend, it's exactly when we (my cousin and I) were playing the game "Fatal Frame 2, the Crimson Sisters", a thought strike in our mind and we were lost in the thought for a while. We asked ourselves "man, how long are we gonna play the games developed by others? When will we create a one of ours and when will others play our game?" We were giving this thought for a while. Next day morning, when we woke up, we had a confident and wicked smile. We met and decided to create a game. Well, to talk about my cousin, by then, he was already into thought process of setting his career in Gaming Domain with his MCA in hand and I was looking forward for creating some innovative project which would totally be an achievement in my college's Department of Computer Science. We had planned and executed perfectly the game. To start with, we did lot of research on process involved in creating a high class 3D game. That’s when we came across an amazing tool "A5 Game Engine". From the review comments and features provided, we were totally impressed. We immediately downloaded the trial version and was looking into it. Read lot of materials. Later, we realized that as any game should have high end graphics, so we thought of spending some time in 3D studio max. By November 2004, we decided to sign up for a fast track program in 3D studio max and A5 Game Engine in a multimedia institute. Days past and we were totally restless. In spite of my busy college studies and my cousin's work schedule, we used to hit to classes during evenings. Phew!!! those were really tiring days. We were waiting for the day to come. We were eagerly looking forward for A5 game engine classes to begin. One fine day, tutor enters the classes and said "Guys!!! Let’s start A5 game engine class from tomorrow". We were totally excited. We fire our tutor with lot of questions. Within few days, there was lot of progress and we started developing basic sample games. Soon, we got confidence and felt "The time has come to show the world who we are". By December 2003, we started working on Story Line for our game. We were totally inspired by the great gamers' work and were referring lot of games for ideas. We selected the terrorism as the theme for the game. After an hour of meeting, we decided the story line and started working on Story Boarding, Level Designing, props selection, strategy, actors, textures, sound effect, graphics and difficultly of the levels. We were doing analysis and research on these phases for a week just to be sure that we start with firm base. One of the very good thing we did was that, we got ourselves registered to the Conitec's official game development forum. Its totally amazing forum filled with game freaks. They were too spontaneous in clarifying any sort of doubts. I have also been an active participant in this game forum. By December second week 2003, we started of the project. Max Payne is a one of the best third person shooter game. As we decided to create a third person shooter game, Max Payne was one of the inspiration factors. We started visualize our game in a very high level graphics enabled game. At the end of the first level of my game, we realized that our game is coming out very good and we started having very high expectation on our game. By end of the first level, my cousin felt that he has better openings for 2D games as he got to focus on his career to get into some leading game companies. I continued on the 3D game development and was much focused to complete into well before my project submission date at my college. Days past by coding and designing. phew!!! Just now, I reached fourth level of my game. Long way to go. I had an initial presentation @ ma college on my Game Development. Computer Science Department Panel were totally astonished by my project idea which was totally unique, creative and innovative. I received lot of appreciations on my game and my ideas. Days were closing by and so were my exams. It was tough call for me - Game on one side and huge curriculum books on my other side. 16th March, 2004 - The day has come to show the world who I am. It was my project submission day at my college. I was totally excited and was really looking forward for this day for very long. As my game, I was planning to present my project in totally different manner from others for a while. In mid of regular Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, I thought of creating an animated presentation exposing my creativity. Probably, I will be only guy in my whole university to play background music (Buddha Bar) in final year project presentation and it came out well. On the presentation day, I got my laptop with graphics card to present my game to an External Project Reviewer from the University. My Head of Department was really impressed with my work and so were many of my friends. Because of good work, he rescheduled my project as the last project of the day thus reserving best for the last. Well, my friends started playing my game and started giving very positive comments. I was flying in Cloud Nine. I was totally happy to hear very good review comments from Professors and Student body of the department of the Computer Science. Its 3 PM and the time have come to present my game project to the External Reviewer. "Sir, I have a created my final project - a 3D game. I call it - Loner". The external reviewer was totally puzzled and was never expecting a full fledge 3D game project to be developed by a student. I made my presentation with music and animations. Demo on my game was given followed by the presentation. He was totally happy and provided me very good feedback on my creative work. He got my mail id and requested me to guide few of his students on Game Development. That was my happiest day, the day I got totally rewarded with the positive reviews comments received for my hard work and dedication towards the work I really enjoyed. My game project was rated as the best project of the Department of the Computer Science. Soon after the external review is over, my Head of the Department gave the following comment:
The months of hard work I have put in developing this game were really hard. Slogged a lot. I had become a landmark, as such, at my desk because of my long hours with my game development. :P Got enough scolding’s from my parents and my bro for not spending some time other than game development and away from my computer. In spite of all these, best part is that I enjoyed my days at the best and loved my work. Game Developement simply Rocks!!!!! - Dinagar
